Sources of metals and fluids in orogenic gold deposits

The aim of this research project is to understand the genesis and distribution of orogenic gold deposits through investigation of the sources of metals and fluids and the source-area processes that allow ore formation to occur.  Why are some orogenic belts well endowed with orogenic gold deposits whereas others contain no mineralization?  What controls this regional distribution of deposits?  This research applies my previous work in the Otago Schists, New Zealand to a number of different orogenic belts of contrasting metal endowment, such as the poorly mineralized Dalradian, Scotland and the spectacularly mineralized Lachlan Fold Belt, Victoria, Australia.  The research investigates the factors that control why Victoria is so heavily mineralized compared to Otago and Scotland.
