Digital processing of geodata

The course addresses the digital analysis and presentation of geological, geographical and geophysical data. Lectures on digital data analyses (formatting, filtering, digital elevation model, creation of maps and computer visualization) alternate with practical exercises (treatment and analysis of geoscience data). The course includes script programming; results of the programming exercises are used to create digital elevation models and digital maps with GIS (Geographic Information Systems). Focus is placed on providing applied basic knowledge in digital data analysis and digital mapping for geoscience research and industry.

Admission requirements

Knowledge equivalent to 60 credits in Geology or Geoscience, where Geology 30 credits (GG2006) or equivalent must be included. Alternatively Geology 30 credits (GG2006), Mathematics for Geoscience 15 credits (MM1007) and Chemistry for Geoscientists 15 credits (KZ2003) or equivalent.
