The independent work aims at giving insight into and experience of scientific work within geology. Planning, analyses and interpretations of the scientific task form a central part. Literature search, scientific report writing and oral presentations of the research results in seminars will be trained.
The course provides knowledge and experience both for further academic studies and for employment in industry and the public sector.

Admission requirements

Courses in geosciences corresponding to 135 credits (including: Geology and marine geoscience I 15 credits; Physical Geography 15 credits; Geochemistry I 15 credits, Quaternary geology and hydrology 15 credits, Geology II 15 credits, or comparable courses).

The course is given each term and can be started and ended any time during the term.

Together with the supervisor/s, the student establishes a project description which needs to be approved by the responsible professor in Geology.

Course literature

will be based on scientific articles and reports and will be provided by the supervisor/s and searched for by the student.


Examination includes a written report and oral presentation.
