Geochemical field methods

The course deals with methods to obtain and analyze water, gas, and sediment samples.

You will obtain knowledge on:
• Sampling methods
• Physical properties
• Nutrient pH, and redox chemistry in aqueous environments
• Biological influence on geochemical processes
• Carbon mineralisation
• Gas exchange between water, sediment, and atmosphere
• Chemical sediment composition
• Weathering

The field work will take place in the Askö laboratory.

Admission requirements

to the course requires knowledge equivalent to 60 credits in Geology or Geoscience where Geology 30 credits (GG2006) or equivalent must be included. Alternatively, Geology 30 credits (GG2006), Mathematics for Geoscience 15 credits (MM1007) and Chemistry for Geoscientists 15 credits (KZ2003) or equivalent.

Course literature

will be handed out in class.


Teaching consists of introductory lectures, exercises, and field work. There will be final seminar presentations by the participants. Attendance in all components of the course is mandatory.
