Geologi och geokemi

Välkommen till Institutionen för geologi och geokemi. Vi som arbetar här forskar, undervisar, bedriver studier och informerar om planeten Jorden. Undervisningen på grundnivå ger en bred kunskap om hur Jorden och dess olika delsystem fungerar, där det bland annat ingår att lära sig om bergarter, vad de består av och hur de bildas. Undervisningen på högre nivå, forskarutbildningen, sker inom ramen för tre ämnen: geologi, geokemi och marin geovetenskap. Vart och ett av dessa tre ämnen leds av en professor: Alasdair Skelton, Patrick Crill och Jan Backman.

Southern Ocean 2010

The mechanisms that led to the retreat of the Western Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS) since the Last Glacial Maximum is the main focus for the Oden Southern Ocean 2009/10 expedition with Swedish icebreaker Oden.

Pilot Coring in Southern Taiwan

In collaboration with scientists from Academia Sinica, three scientists from the Department of Geology and Geochemistry are now in Taiwan trying to get a paleomonsoon record from a small mountain lake in the southern part of the country.

Climate secrets beneath the sea
Research led by Helen Coxall and Jan Backman at the Department of Geology and Geochemistry investigates climate change in the North Atlantic during the early Cenozoic 'greenhouse-to-icehouse' climate transition 34 million years ago. Their project is the focus of an article in the European Union 'Projects' magazine (and also as PDF )
